Cruising to Aberdeen in 2027? Ships, Dates & a Different Way to Explore Scotland

If Aberdeen is one of the stops on your 2027 cruise around the British Isles, you might be wondering what there is to see beyond the harbour.

Quite a lot, as it happens.

This corner of Scotland doesn’t always receive the attention given to Edinburgh, Inverness or the Highlands further west. Yet within reach of Aberdeen you’ll find magnificent castles, ancient stone circles, dramatic cliffs, traditional fishing villages and some of the most beautiful countryside in Scotland.

I’m Jamie, a local guide with A Path Less Known, and I’ve spent much of my life exploring this part of the country. It’s a place I know well, and one I never tire of sharing.

If you’re arriving by cruise ship in 2027, I’d love to show you a little of the Scotland that many visitors miss.

Aberdeen’s 2027 Cruise Season

Aberdeen has become an increasingly popular cruise destination, welcoming ships from around the world to the city’s expanded harbour facilities.

The 2027 schedule already includes visits from Viking Ocean Cruises, Oceania, Azamara, Regent Seven Seas, Silversea and AIDA.

For passengers who prefer something a little more personal than a large organised excursion, I’m planning a limited number of private guided days around selected ship arrivals.

Viking Ocean Cruises — Aberdeen 2027

Viking features prominently in the upcoming cruise schedule. These are the Viking arrivals I’m particularly planning around:

Aberdeen arrival Cruise ship
13 April 2027 Viking Vela
3 May 2027 Viking Vela
9 May 2027 Viking Libra
18 May 2027 Viking Saturn
24 May 2027 Viking Sky
25 May 2027 Viking Vela
17 July 2027 Viking Vesta
16 August 2027 Viking Mars
13 September 2027 Viking Sky
19 September 2027 Viking Sky

Other Selected Aberdeen Cruise Arrivals

These are selected scheduled arrivals rather than a complete Aberdeen cruise calendar. Ship schedules can change, and inclusion here doesn’t mean a private tour is confirmed as available.

So, What Can You See During a Day in Aberdeen?

One of the pleasures of arriving in Aberdeen is the variety of landscapes and experiences available.

Head west and the countryside opens towards Royal Deeside. Travel north and you’ll discover a coastline of dramatic cliffs and remarkable little villages. Or stay closer to Aberdeen and explore the ancient history scattered throughout the surrounding countryside.

There isn’t one perfect excursion for everyone. Much depends on your time ashore and the places that capture your imagination.

Royal Deeside — Castles, Highland Scenery and Royal Connections

Few places capture the changing character of North East Scotland quite like Royal Deeside.

Following the River Dee westwards, the landscape moves through farmland, woodland and beautiful villages towards the foothills of the Cairngorms.

There are castles, historic estates, peaceful riverside settings and, of course, the famous Balmoral connection.

But Deeside is more than Balmoral alone. Some of its most memorable moments are found along the road, in its small communities and in the stories behind the landscape.

Balmoral visitor access is seasonal, so any itinerary needs to take account of the opening arrangements for your particular date.

Discover Royal Deeside private tours.

The Buchan Coast — Scotland Beyond the Usual Tourist Trail

If it’s coastal scenery you’re looking for, the Buchan Coast offers something entirely different.

Here you’ll find fishing villages tucked beneath cliffs, old harbours, sweeping North Sea views and communities shaped by centuries of maritime history.

Places such as Pennan, Gardenstown and Crovie have a character all of their own.

Wildlife and seabirds can add another dimension to the day, particularly during the warmer months, although nature never works to a timetable.

It’s a side of Scotland that still feels wonderfully removed from the busiest visitor routes.

Ancient Aberdeenshire — Stories Written in Stone

Long before the castles and royal estates, people were leaving their mark on this landscape.

Aberdeenshire is particularly rich in prehistoric monuments, including stone circles that have stood for thousands of years.

These are places where the landscape and the stories belong together.

For visitors interested in Scottish history, archaeology or simply discovering something unexpected, they offer a fascinating alternative to the more familiar sightseeing stops.

Why Consider an Independent Shore Excursion?

Cruise-line excursions can be convenient, especially if you’re happy travelling as part of a larger group.

But a private tour offers a different kind of day.

With A Path Less Known, it’s just your group travelling in my vehicle, with a route shaped around the things you want to see.

Perhaps you’d rather spend longer exploring a castle than visiting several attractions in quick succession. Maybe photography is your passion, or you’d simply enjoy the chance to stop in a village, take in the scenery and hear a few local stories.

There’s no need to follow a coach full of passengers from one scheduled stop to the next.

And because I live here, I can introduce you to places and stories that don’t always appear in the usual excursion descriptions.

What Does a Private Aberdeen Shore Excursion Cost?

My private guided excursions are priced at £595 per group, for up to seven guests.

For a group of seven travelling together, that’s just £85 per person.

You’re booking the entire private experience, not purchasing individual seats. The total price remains £595 for smaller groups.

For couples, families or friends travelling together, it’s an opportunity to enjoy a day exploring Aberdeenshire with your own local guide.

Planning Your Day Around the Ship

One thing matters above everything else when planning an independent shore excursion: making sensible use of your time ashore.

Every cruise call is different.

Before suggesting a route, I’ll need to know your ship, its arrival date and the time you must be back on board.

From there, we can work out what’s realistic, allowing for disembarkation, travel, attraction opening arrangements and a comfortable margin for returning to the port.

The collection point will be agreed in advance, taking account of your ship’s berth and the port’s arrangements.

The aim is simple: to make the most of your day in Scotland without trying to squeeze in more than the available hours allow.

Your Aberdeen Cruise Visit Could Be Something Special

For many cruise passengers, Aberdeen is just one stop on a much longer journey.

But I’d like to think it can become one of the places you remember most.

Not necessarily because you visited the greatest number of attractions, but because you experienced something genuine. A beautiful stretch of coastline. A quiet Highland village. An ancient monument. A story you weren’t expecting.

That’s really what A Path Less Known is all about.

If you’re arriving aboard Viking, Azamara, Oceania, Regent, Silversea, AIDA or another cruise ship in 2027, I’d be delighted to hear from you.

Have a look at my Aberdeen private shore excursions, or send me an enquiry with your ship name and arrival date.

Let’s see where your day in North East Scotland could take you.
